Columbia Blood Agar Base is an ideal base medium for preparation of blood agar, chocolate agar and for preparation of various selective and identification media. Grow fastidious organisms with rapid production of large colonies, clearly defined zones of hemolysis and good colonial differentiation for all-around performance with Columbia Blood Agar when used with whole defibrinated blood. Traditionally, blood agar has been either casein hydrolysate or meat infusion media. The advantage of the first lies in the rapid production of large colonies, and the second in clearly defined zones of hemolysis and good colonial differentiation. This formulation combines the virtues of both for optimal performance1.
