Selectively enrich Salmonella spp. from food and environmental specimens with Thermo Scientificâ„¢ Oxoidâ„¢ Rappaport-Vassiliadis Soya Peptone Broth (Dehydrated). Rappaport- Vassiliadis Soya Peptone Broth selects for Salmonella species by exploiting their characteristics when compared with other Enterobacteriaceae, such as the ability to survive at relatively high osmotic pressure, multiply at relatively low pH values, be relatively more resistant to malachite green, and have relatively less demanding nutritional requirements1. Use Rappaport-Vassiliadis Soya Peptone Broth for selective enrichment of Salmonella spp. from food and environmental specimens.Selective: malachite green, low pH, and high magnesium chloride concentration inhibit many Gram-positive bacteria, while selectively enriching for salmonellae.Superior performance to Selenite Enrichment Broth and Tetrathionate Broth for the enrichment of salmonellae with the exception of Salmonella typhi1RVS Broth is based on the revised formulation described by van Schothorst et al.3, and is recommended as the selective enrichment medium for the isolation of salmonellae from food and environmental specimens. It can also be used to isolate salmonellae from human feces without the need for pre-enrichment. It is a modification of the Rappaport Vassiliadis (RV) Enrichment Broth described earlier by van Schothorst and Renauld4. The modifications to their earlier formula are:The addition of dipotassium hydrogen phosphate to buffer the medium so that the pH is maintained during storage of the prepared broth.Clarifying the optimum concentration of magnesium chloride 6H2O.The two modifications are said to enhance the reliability of the enrichment broth1. Peterz et al.3 have also highlighted the importance of the concentration of magnesium chloride in the final medium.RVS Peptone Broth is based on the revised formulation and is recommended as the selective enrichment medium for the isolation of salmonellae from food and environmental specimens. It can also be used to isolate salmonellae from human feces without the need for pre-enrichment.Not all products are available for sale in all territories.
