  • Description
  • General Description: Glycine is a non chiral, proteinogenic amino acid with a pI of 6.7, similar to the pH of the stacking region in polyacrylamide gels. It offers low mobility, hydrophobicity, and does not associate with proteins. This non essential, non polar glucogenic amino acid acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, and works alongside glutamate as a co agonist at NMDA receptors. As a precursor, it serves as a building block for various macromolecules.
  • Research Uses: Its zwitterionic nature makes it an effective buffer across a range of pH values, giving it a critical role in protein analysis techniques such as SDS PAGE, Western Blotting, chromatography, and cell culture. It is widely used in buffer preparation for immunology research, in enzymatic assays such as lactate determination, and in the formulation of buffers for protein stabilization and pH control.
  • Application: Added to the transfer buffer during western blotting. Used to dissolve formazan crystals in the MTT cytotoxicity assay, and to terminate the rat basophilic leukemia (RBL) assay.
  • Biochemical Actions: An inhibitory neurotransmitter in the spinal cord and central nervous system, acting as an allosteric regulator of NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptors. It is involved in the processing of motor and sensory data, regulating movement, vision, and audition.
  • Features and Benefits: High quality compound suitable for cell biology, biochemical research, and multiple research applications.
