Molybdic Acid

Molybdic Acid is an ACS reagent grade inorganic acid, the hydrated form of molybdenum trioxide, supplied as a powder at an assay of ≥85.0% on a MoO3 basis. It functions as a molybdenum source and catalyst reagent, and consists largely of an ammonium molybdate.

Application

Molybdic acid can be used:

  • In the preparation of silica supported molybdic acid catalyst for the synthesis of pyrano [2,3-c] chromene derivatives by condensation of aldehydes, malononitrile, and 4-hydroxycoumarin.
  • In the synthesis of Froehde reagent for the presumptive identification of alkaloids such as opioids.
  • As a molybdenum source in the preparation of MoSe2.

Other Notes

Consists largely of an ammonium molybdate.
