Are Ocon Chemicals pipette tips RNase-free, DNase-free and pyrogenic-free?

Yes they are. And that's not as a premium upgrade, that comes as standard. Every Ocon Chemicals pipette tip is certified RNase-free and certified DNase-free. It’s also human genomic DNA-free and pyrogenic-free. This means your samples will definitely stay clear of the contaminants that can sometimes skew PCR, qPCR and cell based results. They suit very sensitive molecular biology and analytical work. This is because they are moulded from virgin polypropylene in GMP cleanrooms.

What's actually the difference between filtered and non-filtered pipette tips? And when should I use each?

Filtered pipette tips have an aerosol barrier. It stops liquids, vapours and contaminants getting to the pipette shaft. This is really essential for PCR, RNA/DNA work. And for volatile or infectious samples where cross-contamination has to be avoided. Non-filtered tips are really great for routine, lower-risk pipetting. Ocon Chemicals supplies both sterile. What are extended pipette tips? And how do I choose the right tip size?

Extended tips are longer. They let you reach the bottom of tall tubes, vials and deep-well plates. They do this without dipping the pipette into your sample. To choose a tip, you should match its volume range to your pipette. Our Ocon Chemicals range covers 10µl, 20µl, 100µl, 200µl and 1000µl. You then pick filtered or sterile versions wherever sample purity matters.

What is a serological pipette? And should I choose individually wrapped or bulk?

A serological pipette is a graduated pipette. It’s used with a controller to transfer larger variable volumes. Commonly used in cell culture and media prep. Sterile pipettes protect sterility for critical or aseptic work. They are individually wrapped. Bulk packs can give better value for high-throughput labs. Ocon Chemicals has 1ml and 5ml sterile serological pipettes in both formats.

What are conical centrifuge tubes used for? And what's the difference between the 1.5ml and 50ml?

Conical centrifuge tubes hold samples during spinning. The tapered base concentrating pellets for easy separation. The 1.5ml microcentrifuge tube is good for small-volume molecular work. The 50ml screw-cap tube is really good for larger samples and general day to day lab use. Ocon Chemicals tubes are DNase- and RNase-free. This means they're ready for sensitive downstream applications straight out of the pack!

What does "TC-treated" and "vented cap" mean on your culture flasks?

"TC-treated" means the flask's growth surface is tissue-culture treated to help adherent cells attach on and grow very evenly. A vented (filter) cap allows sterile gas exchange in COâ‚‚ incubators. It does this while keeping contaminants out. A plain cap keeps the flask sealed. Ocon Chemicals' T75 culture flasks are sterile. They are TC-treated and supplied with vent caps for cell culture.

Are Ocon Chemicals' Petri dishes sterile and vented? And what sizes are available?

Yes they sure are. Our Petri dishes are supplied sterile and they’re ready to use. They have triple-vent rims that allow airflow and also they reduce condensation. This gives clearer and more reliable culturing. They come in 60mm, 90mm and 150mm diameters. They are moulded in optical-grade polystyrene for clear viewing and accurate reading. This should suit everything from colony counts to large-plate work.
